THE DUAL GEOMETRY OF PEOPLE AND NEWS
Alexy Khrabrov - revised working paper, 2 October 2026

Release ID: 1.0.1 (notation-only patch). Sources and PDF/EPUB are versioned in the
querygraph/anthropology Git repository. release.json records portable paths,
checksums, audited implementation revisions, and final validation results.

Version 1.0.1 defines notation before use throughout the paper, explicitly
identifies z_a before Equation 5, and separates singular values (Sigma) from
standardized raw scores (S). It changes no data, fitted models, numerical
examples, or empirical conclusions. Corrections use semantic patch versions.

The preceding edition 2026-10-02.1 (semantic delivery version 1.0.0) added
organization assertions, selected news relationships, and
reported financing events to the completed 2 October identity reconciliation.
The final catalog has 59,399 nodes, 102,261 relationship records across three
review statuses, and 2,893 financing events. Eight historical investment
associations are excluded from that financing total. The 1 October people
vector snapshot remains unchanged: 217 HN and 61 general-news profiles.
Identity confirmation does not verify an entire article bucket, and neither
catalog growth nor an issuer's Form D filing establishes a social relationship.

Build the PDF
  From the repository root:
    typst compile papers/people-news-duality/manuscript.typ output/pdf/anthropology-people-news-duality.pdf
From an extracted source bundle, build alongside the manuscript:
    typst compile manuscript.typ anthropology-people-news-duality.pdf
Tested toolchain: Typst 0.15.1, Libertinus Serif, New Computer Modern Math.
Included SVGs mean Mermaid/browser tools are unnecessary for this step.
Preserve the previous PDF and source bundle before promoting a new build.
The release manifest records the final page count and visual review result.

Build the EPUB after reviewing the PDF
Requirements: Python 3, Typst 0.15.1, Pandoc, Java, EPUBCheck 5.4.0.
  EPUBCheck: https://github.com/w3c/epubcheck/releases/tag/v5.4.0
From repo root, with EPUBCheck installed at the chosen location:
    python3 papers/people-news-duality/export-epub.py --output output/epub/anthropology-people-news-duality.epub --work-dir tmp/epub-1.0.1 --epubcheck /path/to/epubcheck.jar --pdf output/pdf/anthropology-people-news-duality.pdf
Pass --java /path/to/java if the system Java launcher is unavailable.
The helper refuses to overwrite an existing EPUB. Use a new output path
for a revised build and preserve the previous version before replacing it.
It exports real text, MathML, tables, linked references, SVGs and the PNG
snapshot, rather than turning PDF pages into images. Staging-only rules
preserve mean bars and cross-chapter equation/figure anchors that otherwise
disappear in the Typst HTML/Pandoc path. The original Typst/PDF is untouched.
EPUBCheck must report no warnings/errors. Additional checks compare math,
  table, overline and anchor counts. export-manifest.json records provenance;
inspect rendered reader views as well as validator results, because MathML
support varies. Included vector diagrams remain sharp.

Regenerate the diagrams
Tested with Mermaid CLI 11.15.0 (mmdc), from this paper directory:
    mmdc -i figures/navigation.mmd -o figures/navigation.svg -c figures/mermaid.json -b transparent -w 1200
    mmdc -i figures/calibration.mmd -o figures/calibration.svg -c figures/mermaid.json -b transparent -w 1200
    mmdc -i figures/architecture.mmd -o figures/architecture.svg -c figures/mermaid.json -b transparent -w 1200
If Chrome cannot be located automatically, pass -p with a Puppeteer config
identifying your local browser. htmlLabels is disabled to retain native text.

Recompute measurements
  Use Anthropology implementation 89058a16f3a7c34f9a117a3b246ee18633ff5aa8
with this edition's paper directory under papers/people-news-duality:
    node papers/people-news-duality/extract-evidence.mjs
Required tracked inputs include data/people-vectors.json, data/graph.json,
data/archive-summary.json, data/ai-coverage.json, and the final release receipt
data/funding-events-release.json. Both compact paper audits are read and
hashed. The script recomputes model consistency, examples and Jeff Dean's
navigation coordinates, and checks the release count partitions. It does
not independently repeat entity resolution or relation extraction.

With locally retained raw catalog inputs, also run:
    node papers/people-news-duality/extract-evidence.mjs --verify-catalog --artifact-root=/path/to/original-checkout
The artifact root defaults to the current checkout. The verifier checks 16
historical identity artifacts and 24 enrichment artifacts by byte length and
SHA-256. Historical tracked files are read through git show at the pinned
sourceAuditCommit in their manifest; this preserves the old registry and
graph hashes even though current files have changed. Raw ignored files are
read from the artifact root. Git history containing both audit commits is
  required for this full verification.

The original 105,338,217-byte identity snapshot, the 270,937,620-byte enriched
snapshot, matcher journals, detailed collection outputs and original browser
receipt are locally retained, not redistributed in the source bundle. The
compact manifests record their paths, sizes, hashes, results and limitations.
Independent collection requires those underlying inputs. PDF/EPUB builds
use the included manuscript evidence and figures without those raw datasets.
No extraction command crawls, refits, projects new articles or mutates inputs.

First Pair publication
See the source repository's FIRSTPAIR.md and book.build.json for the PDF,
EPUB, single-page and chapter-reader package. The supplied Anthropology
artwork is the First Pair shelf cover; the scholarly PDF retains its title
page. The public source ZIP carries this paper directory and the repository
publication contract, not the private application repository or raw inputs.
Generate it from the source repository root with:
    python3 papers/people-news-duality/bundle-sources.py
After refreshing release.json, regenerate the ZIP and copy the same bytes
into output/firstpair/anthropology-chapters/ before publication. The stable
  source route is:
    https://firstpair.org/read/anthropology/chapters/anthropology-paper-sources.zip

Evidence semantics
Source-asserted, machine-classified and unclassified relationship records
remain separate. Counts are records, not unique pairs. News classification
covers 8,188 selected local articles; it is not an exhaustive archive scan.
Funding-language candidates remain outside the graph. SEC Form D records
are issuer-reported offerings, not SEC verification. Amendments update one
offering; proceeds and offering targets remain separate. The collector
invents no investor identities, lead roles or stages. Registry issuers do
not automatically count as Wikipedia-confirmed organizations or establish
the identity of similarly named products. No recurring collector is active.

The Jeff Dean example combines recomputed model values with a retained
browser receipt: 253 candidate matches, selected axes N24/P2, inspected
neighbors and cross-site links. Its WIRED interview is historical: the
publisher dates it 14 December 2019, while the HN-derived evidence row is
dated 15 December. The current overlay has zero newly qualified person joins.

Live figure provenance
Fresh capture: 2 October 2026, 20:27:29 UTC. Production anthropolo.gy was
opened in headless Chrome at 1740 x 1150, device scale 2, with the deep-learning
tribe and Yann LeCun selected. The built-in Zoom out control was clicked once
(scale 0.8). The region includes the graph and selected-node inspector:
21 visible nodes and 34 displayed connections. No image content was edited.
The sidecar records URL, canonical node, revision, viewport, actions,
timestamp and SHA-256. Earlier captures retain their original filenames and
evidence dates; later captures must not silently replace them.

Scope and verification
This is a source-audited systems working paper, not a peer-reviewed study.
Completed matching, publication and navigation checks are operational
results, not estimates of identity accuracy or retrieval relevance.
Implemented naming and private ontology tags remain distinct from proposed
crosswalks, learned calibration, profile refresh and scientific evaluation.
Evidence extraction and all 40 frozen-artifact checks pass for this edition.
Final delivery requires rendering and inspecting every PDF page, validating
the EPUB without warnings/errors, and checking reader views and internal
links. release.json records completed delivery checks and checksums separately
from catalog revisions and fitted-model fingerprints.
